Welcome!

LIZ CERVANTES

Independent artist known for her watercolor paintings that reveal hidden images under black light. Originally from Mexico, she moved to the United States to follow her passion for creative expression. Her work combines traditional techniques with neon and UV-reactive pigments, bringing a sense of discovery and layered meaning to each piece.

Cervantes’s glowing watercolor pieces often explore dreams, memory, and identity. By day, the paintings appear soft and colorful; under black light, new images emerge, inspired by dreams, space, the universe, and imagination, inviting a second look and a deeper connection. She also created a private mural using the same technique, transforming a home wall into a glowing, immersive artwork.

In addition to painting, Cervantes is a filmmaker and photographer with a background in art direction, video journalism, and mixed media. Her skills across disciplines often influence one another, with imagery from her paintings weaving into her films and vice versa.

Cervantes has a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering from the Tecnológico de Estudios Superiores de Cuautitlán Izcalli in the State of Mexico. One of the few awarded for academic excellence by the ANFEI (National Association of Colleges and Schools of Engineering), she graduated summa cum laude from her university.

Liz Cervantes studied at the Lumiere Film Academy in Mexico City, earning a certificate in Acting, Production Design, and Art Direction. She later completed a Filmmaking certificate at the New York Film Academy in Los Angeles. Her early career included work as an Advertisement and Promotion Assistant and a video journalist and reporter for El Universal newspaper in Mexico, followed by photography work for Universal Studios and Warner Brothers in Los Angeles.

Always curious, she continued her education at Los Angeles Community College, exploring a wide range of subjects including Astronomy, Women’s Studies, Political Science, and 3D Animation. She worked as a freelance filmmaker, producing and editing music videos, educational content, and travel documentaries. Her filmmaking also includes claymation and stop motion, often blending with her visual art.

As a lesbian artist, Cervantes embraces themes of visibility, identity, and belonging, and is committed to supporting inclusive creative spaces for the LGBTQ+ community.

She remains an active member of her local artist community, participating in group shows, galleries, collaborations, and creative gatherings. Her work continues to evolve as she explores new ways to blend light, color, and the hidden layers of human experience.
